This broadcast is not about predictions, nor is it about setting dates as some foolishly have done, however it is all about preparation.
First, today, let’s look at some Signs of His Coming in the news.
The disciples asked Jesus in Matthew 24:3, “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Jesus Christ then went on to give them (and us) clear signs that show us when we can begin to expect to see the coming of the Lord and the end of the world. Those signs include:
1. the appearance of false Christs and false prophets
2. wars and rumors of wars
4. pestilences (fatal epidemic diseases)
5. earthquakes in divers (various) places
6. increased persecution of believers
7. the Gospel being preached in all the world
8. signs and great wonders in the heavens (involving the sun, moon, stars, and planetary movements)
9. distress and perplexity among people
10. increased violence “as in the days of Noah”
11. increased homosexuality and sexual immorality “as it was in the days of Lot”
12. the rise of “Gog and Magog” (which many Bible scholars believe refers to Russia)
13. the rise of the “kings of the east” (which many Bible scholars believe refers to China)
14. increase in knowledge (science and technology)
15. apostasy in the church
16. interest in a unified world government to bring about global peace
17. interest in the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem
The Bible also speaks of other signs which will be evident in “perilous times” in Second Timothy 3. Those signs are people being:
23. disobedient to parents
26. without natural affection
28. false accusers
31. despisers of those that are good
35. lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God
36. having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.
Other signs of the times which have been gleaned from Scripture include:
37. scoffers who mock of Christ’s return
38. movement toward a one-world religion
39. outpouring of the Holy Spirit
40. outbreak of demonic and occultic activity
41. re-establishment of Israel
42. Arab hostility toward Israel
43. re-unification of Europe
44. movement toward a one-world economy
Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Jerusalem Post, Iranian-backed Shi’ite [SHEE-ITE] Houthi [HU-THEE] rebels are on the verge of a coup in Yemen as Sunni rivals within the country and regionally seem helpless to stop them. The United Arab Emirates-based Gulf News headlined its editorial on Tuesday: “the Gulf Cooperation Council must intervene now to save Yemen.” If the Houthis [HU-THEES] are able to solidify control over the Arabian Peninsula’s southernmost country, which abuts the Red Sea, whence ships travel to and from ports in Israel, Jordan, and the Suez Canal, they could endanger the sea traffic of Israel and other countries. On display across the capital of Yemen is the group’s slogan — “Death to America, Death to Israel” — which is modeled on Iran’s revolutionary motto. And many Yemenis draw parallels between the Houthis [HU-THEES] and another of Iran’s protégés – Lebanon’s Hezbollah. Yemeni and Iranian officials say Iran supplied military and financial support to Houthi [HU-THEE] forces both before and after their takeover of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.
Second, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Jerusalem Post, senior Iranian military officials on Thursday continued to threaten “crushing responses” against Israel for the death of a top Revolutionary Guard officer in an airstrike on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights earlier this week. Brigadier General Hos-sein Sa-la-mi, the second-in-command in the Revolutionary Guard, told Iranian state media that his troops are capable of firing missiles on Israel. The Iranian officer said that the Golan attack was an attempt to “change the balance of power in Syria” and help the Islamist elements working to topple the government of Tehran’s key ally, President Bashar Assad.
Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to The Associated Press, the first U.N. General Assembly meeting on anti-Semitism on Thursday sparked calls for global action to combat the rising hatred of Jews and a surprising denunciation from the world’s 57 Islamic nations of all words and acts that lead “to hatred, anti-Semitism, and Islamaphobia.” U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power said the statement delivered by Saudi Arabia’s U.N. Ambassador on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was “extremely significant,” especially since the United Nations has often been a venue to try to de-legitimize Israel. The assembly met at the request of 37 mainly Western countries including the United States who urged the world body to address the “alarming outbreak of anti-Semitism worldwide.”
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE INCREASE IN NATURAL DISASTERS — According to the Oregonian, a series of eight earthquakes shook Oregon’s southern border on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The quakes ranged in magnitude from 2.5 to 4.5 and were centered in rural Nevada, between 41 and 48 miles east-southeast of the small town of Lakeview, Oregon. Since July 12, 2014, an earthquake swarm has been shaking lightly populated northwest Nevada and southern Oregon. As of early December, more than 1,700 quakes had been reported in the area.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Israel National News, the United States’ embassy in Tel Aviv issued a travel warning to American citizens and government personnel in Israel, citing the recent tensions along Israel’s northern borders and the terrorist stabbing attack in Tel Aviv. The advisory said, “Because of concerns about security on Israel’s northern borders, U.S. government personnel are currently required to obtain advance approval if they wish to travel within 1.5 miles of the Lebanon border, or travel in the Golan Heights.” Northern residents and the IDF have been on high alert throughout the week.
The Bible says in Matthew 24:22: “And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”

Now, it’s time for Prophecy Bootcamp.
Prophecy Bootcamp is where we deal with the basics of prophecy, the Second Coming of Christ, and what will happen in the future according to the Bible. Our aim here is not to make predictions but to help you get prepared by understanding how things will unfold in the end times.
Our topic for today is titled “The Final Victory” (Part 3) from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future”.
When John looked up, he saw the Savior looking down. Jesus said, “I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore.” Then he added the most important statement of all: “And I have the keys of death and Hades.” Jesus had already triumphed over the forces of Satan in His crucifixion and resurrection. He had already descended into hell, announced Satan’s doom, “stolen the keys,” and risen victorious.
Now the Lord had come for His beleaguered servant, His beloved disciple, and His dear friend. He was going to unlock the mystery of the future and unveil the sequence of events that would lead to Armageddon and the End Times.
He commanded John to “write” those things which:
1. “You have seen” (past)
2. “Things which are” (present)
3. “Things which shall take place after these things” (future)
Many have used that simple threefold designation to outline the entire book: past (chapter 1), present (chapters 2 and 3), and future (chapters 4 through 22). Chapter 1 closes by uniting each of these elements. The Savior who died and rose again in the past is still alive and moving in His Church in the present and will come again in the future. He has already triumphed, and so shall we!
Lord willing, we will continue looking at this topic on our next broadcast/podcast.
In closing, let’s consider what God wants you and me to do in light of His Second Coming.
Jesus Christ said in Luke 19:13 to “Occupy till I come.” In light of that, we are continuing our Bible study series on the books of First & Second Thessalonians which Paul wrote to believers who had concerns about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, and what they should do as they waited. This section is titled “Living Like a Christian (Part 3)” from the book “Waiting on the Second Coming” by Ray C. Stedman.
Paul admonished the Thessalonians to hold their leaders “in the highest regard.” In other words, value them. Understand that though your leaders may have personal idiosyncrasies that are hard to handle on occasion, their work is important; and for that reason they should be highly esteemed.
Through the centuries the church has attempted to flatter its leaders with high-sounding titles such as “bishop,” “reverend,” and others. But Paul is not talking about bestowing superficial names and labels. I’ve noticed that in the New Testament the early church leaders, even the mighty apostles of our Lord, are all called by their first names — not Saint Peter or the Apostle John.
To “hold them in the highest regard” is not only to esteem leaders as valuable, but also to express that esteem in a practical manner. This is why Paul wrote in his first letter to Timothy, “The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor.” The apostle meant that the leader should be paid twice as much salary! In other words, a double honorarium.
Church members are also to “live in peace with each other.”. This admonition suggests a deliberate refusal to create factions over individual leaders of a church. Do not group around one person at the expense of others in leadership. Do not play favorites and attack others. In 1 Timothy, Paul warns that no one may bring an accusation against an elder except on the word of two or three witnesses. Careful heed to these guidelines would prevent many a church split or fracture.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.
Remember the words of the Lord in Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:44 says, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
