A man with a history of domestic abuse fatally shot a police officer and wounded a second Thursday before he and a woman were found dead following a reported fight at their apartment, authorities said.

Canonsburg police Officer Scott Bashioum and the unidentified second officer were “immediately fired upon” when they responded to a domestic call and approached the home on Woodcrest Drive around 3:15 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Melinda Bondarenka said.

Bashioum, 52, a father of four, died after being taken to Canonsburg Hospital. The second officer was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was in stable condition after having surgery.

Police said a man with an apparent self-inflicted wound and a woman were found dead in the house. Authorities have so far declined to identify them, but Bondarenka said, “We are confident there is no ongoing threat to the public.”

The suspect was identified as Michael Cwiklinski, 47, in a Pennsylvania Criminal Intelligence Center alert. It was sent to warn officers to watch out for the man before he was found dead.

Attorney David Wolf, who represented Cwiklinski in previous cases, identified the dead woman as Cwiklinski’s girlfriend, Dalia Sabae.

Bondarenka said the woman had a protection from abuse order. She would not confirm reports that the woman was pregnant.
