Singer Christina Wells paid tribute to Aretha Franklin on “America’s Got Talent.”
The Houston native blew the roof off the Dolby Theatre with a powerful rendition of Franklin’s “Natural Woman” during the semifinal round Tuesday.
But to Wells, the message behind the 1967 hit meant something more. The lyrics were a chance to overcome her insecurities and embrace a newfound confidence the show has given her.
“‘America’s Got Talent’ has changed my life,” an emotional Wells said before taking the stage. “When I look in the mirror, the woman who did that is not skinny and is not perfect but she’s me. For the first time in my life I feel just right.”
