A man looking for his girlfriend’s apartment in Atlanta was shot and killed Friday after knocking on the wrong door, according to police.
The victim, identified as 19-year-old Omarian Banks, took a Lyft to the address but was dropped off near the wrong entryway around 12:30 a.m., according to WSB-TV.
Banks was Facetiming with his girlfriend, Zsakeria Mathis, who had just moved to a new apartment, WSB-TV reported. Mathis told the station Banks asked her to open the door and she started to worry when she didn’t hear him knock.
“I just hear faint voices and a gunshot, and then I hear him yell,” Mathis told the station. “And I heard all the fear in his voice and he was just, ‘I’m sorry! I’m at the wrong door!’”

Police said after he knocked on the door, Banks started walking away but the suspect, Darryl Bynes, went onto his balcony to confront him. A “verbal exchange ensued” and at some point Bynes, 32, shot the victim, authorities said.
