Morgan Freeman to Play Colin Powell in New Biopic Directed by ‘Marshall”s Reginald HudlinMorgan Freeman is reportedly poised to play Colin Powell in an upcoming biopic about the former secretary of State. The film, “Powell,” is set during the 80-year-old ex-Army general’s time as top diplomat in the George W. Bush administration, The Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday. It’s not the first time Freeman, also 80, has played a top government official. The Academy Award winner — who voiced a 2016 ad for then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton — portrayed a fictional president in 1998’s “Deep Impact,” a Speaker of the House in the 2013 movie, “Olympus Has Fallen” who became vice president for 2016’s “London Has Fallen,” and a Supreme Court justice on CBS’s “Madam Secretary.” No word on when the drama, directed by Reginald Hudlin of “Marshall,” will hit theaters.
