Guatemalan troops halted a large caravan with thousands of migrants as they moved through the country last week. The majority have been sent back into Honduras, while others have fanned out across Guatemala.
Tropical Storm Eta triggered landslides and left a path of destruction through Central America, especially in Guatemala. The center of the storm never touched the country, but heavy rains overflowed rivers and caused mudslides, destroying or damaging villages.
Tropical Storm Eta has already killed dozens in Guatemala, Mexico, and Honduras after unleashing flooding and mudslides. Now, the enormous storm has turned nearly stationary, threatening parts of Florida and Cuba with heavy rain and flooding.
Eta remained a tropical storm Wednesday afternoon as it prepared to skirt past the heavily populated Tampa Bay region in Florida and crash ashore in the coming hours somewhere to the north along the Gulf of Mexico coast.
